First weather Mojo and nu setup.

04 Oct, 2009 | admin | Too many Comments - 14 -
This weekend I took the chance to update the whole system so that users can add several other different data as settings for upcoming MOJOS. What i am talking about is that users now can choose "my settings" after visiting http://m.mojocafe.net and enter several personal IDs.
At the moment these are:

Yahoo! Location
flickr ID
flickr TAG
Twitter
Facebook

In Detail here a short description for each of them.

Yahoo! Location
I will develop several weather mojos in the near future. The weather data is gathered from http://weather.yahoo.com and send back to the mojocafe.net server and cached by a script called simplepie. Wow techie stuff :D
The point is that the user must insert a location code that can be found at the Yahoo! weather site after entering a location.

flickr ID
By entering a flickr ID an upcoming mojo will snatch the latest 6 photos out of that ID and show it inside the mojo. The idea that i have at the moment is that each photo will be shown for 10 minutes

flickr TAG/WORD
The flickr tag will be for a mojo showing photos from flickr that were tagged with the word entered by the user. Example giving: if you enter "sunset" as word, the latest 6 images uploaded to flickr containing a "sunset" tag will be shown.

twitter ID
By providing an ID in here, an upcoming mojo will show the latest status set by friends or a user.

facebook ID
Just like the twitter one but as i have not been playing around with the facebook API i can not say what else will be possible to gather as information.

Ok. I am going to work on the weather mojos i had developed for MOJOCAFE v2.0 before and try to port them back into the latest system version. I also hope at the moment that the portation has worked for all mobile systems but until now no bugs from users.

Mojocafe on PlaystationPortable AND Nokia 5800 confirmed by Cegy

17 Sep, 2009 | admin | Too many Comments - 1 -
Ok, now the breaking news are getting crazy. I am just chatting with a Cegy in a PSP chat. He was so kind to check if his PSP works with the Flash Lite Version of the Mojocafe, and.... *drumroll* .... IT DOES!

Confirmation:
Mojocafe works on the PSP 2003 - 5.50 gen-a

AND as this would not be enough he took the chance to check it on his NOKIA 5800 and voila: it WORKS TOO!

The most astonishing thing is that on both devices the Mojos appeared in fullscreen directly. No hazzle or things to manually change. This just sounds great. What he and all of you do not know is that the last days i have been working on a NOKIA Application so that you can start the Mojocafe with just one tip on your mobile phone.

I will send Cegy the file as he is willing to test it out.
My aim is to put the Application inside the NOKIA OVI Store to see two things:
1st if my programming skills are enough to make the thing work
and
2nd to see how the developing workflow for the NOKIA OVI Store is.

More news at ... aeh... later!

Archos gen5 devices confirmed!

archos 605f
Some great news for today! Thanks to the help of _av500_ and dm8tbr i was able to make the MOJOCAFE work on ARCHOS gen5 devices. No exact details about how fluid the MOJOS are, but due to the processor power that these devices come with, you can be sure that they run smooth.

While testing we had to find out that some models do not like the fact that the main MOJOCAFE application tries to save a cookie on the device. Also it looks like loading external .PHP files were a hurdle. We couldn`t only find out if this was due to the ARCHOS system or the OPERA browser.
Nevertheless i am happy to see the Mojocafe on such a nice device as i think that the MOJOCAFE and the ARCHOS target group fit perfectly as "our end consumers" are interested in a stylish product. The ARCHOS productgroup allready is bold and offers great applications offering you more then an ordinary media player. And with the MOJOCAFE mojos on it, a new designing and personalizing option has arrived for every ARCHOS owner.
Thanks once again to _av500_ and dm8tbr for beta-testing.

I will look forward to bring the MOJOCAFE to the rest of the ARCHOS productfamily and keep you updated in here.

Mojocafe screensaver 2.0

16 Sep, 2009 | admin | Too many Comments - 1 -
The second version of the Mojocafe screensaver is online now.
It can be found by simply clicking the big yellow button on the startpage leading to the MOJOCAFE downloads.
The screensaver has no options to set up - it's just as simple as possible. Once an ID is entered, the screensaver saves that ID and starts by itself after 30 seconds (plus the time set up individually at the win screensaver time setting).

If you'd like to, download it directly through this link:

NOKIA WIDGET

16 Sep, 2009 | admin | Too many Comments - 1 -
The last days i have been trying several things at the same time. *ugh* crazy ! What i mean is that i checked if and how it is possible to bring the Mojocafe directly to the maemo AND a mobile plattform.
In facts this means that i have 8 gigs of SDK's, several IDE's and a lot more of stuff installed on my pc with that i tried to find a solution to bring the project to the mentiond plattforms. The result arrived today! With the help of the Aptana IDE i developed a Nokia Widget that brings the mojos right on the screen of a s60 3rd edition mobile phone.

And: yes it works!
Through the NOKIA remote device service i was able to install the mojocafe widget and bring it to a NOKIA 5800 music Express device - in fullscreen. It looks amazing!

So the next step was to register at Nokia and its OVI App store to but the app there online.
Unfortunately you have to pay 50 Euros, what is not the problem. But as you can only pay it with a credit card - that i do not have *sigh*

I allready posted it inside the NOKIA forums to check if it is possible to pay via PayPal, but no response so far.
So it might take a few days until i get a solution for this.

On the other hand i stranded on the Pandora plattform once again to see if the device is finished and distributed. It should be out within the next weeks by what rumours say. So i finished up a a Pandora IRC chat and asked about the Flash Lite option. Looks like the device will offer it what makes me more then happy.

UPDATE - FINISHED!

08 Sep, 2009 | admin | Too many Comments - 1 -
Geesus christ! It took me about four days to update the whole system - with an averag of 5 hours of sleep.
But finally it is done ! And i am so glad about the result.
It's not just the compact design so that the whole page even would work on netbooks, but more the fact that i found a way how users can use the Mojocafe without needing to register their account.

Before it was like this:
Users registered and received a password. With this password they were able to login and their "mojo-playlist" was gathered from the database and loaded inside the device.

Now it is like this:
Users make a playlist of four mojos. These can be the same or simply just different ones. Each playlist is saved with an ID-Code. All that the user has to do now to get his personalized Mojo playlist is to enter this code as soon as he visits http://m.mojocafe.net with his device.

It sounds easier then it is but it looks like it is working out perfect.
The biggest advantages of it: people do not have to register and provide any personal information. I hate to offer any kind of information without knowing whom i am handing these out to.
So it was one of my biggest wishes to develop a solution for a registration-free service and i found it :)

About the personal information necessary for the Weather Mojos i also found a neat way that i am going to implement later on.
This is, that the user data is NOT saved in a database but inside a local cookie. So the personal userinfo is always kept at the proper device and not somewhere outside in the internet in a database.

Ok - i am tired now. Tomorrow is going to be a tough day but i will manage it.
I just have been inside the maemo.org IRC channel to inform the people about the update. I received nuttin but NOTHING. Only one mate seemed interested but the rest simply just do not care.
Do the *nix folks hate Flash that much? Weird.

The future of the Mojocafe

11 Mar, 2009 | admin | Too many Comments - 7 -
As you might have noticed, i have not developed a Mojo for days now.
The main reason for this is, and i hope that you have read it allready on the ABOUT section, that i do not want to offer quantity of Mojos but a quality of Mojos.
So you will not have daily or weekly Mojos, but more beautiful and bold ones from time to time.

The second reason is that i am trying to develop branded but exclusive Mojos for the Mojocafe. At the moment i am in contact with the producers of the WarRock game (www.warrock.net) to develop a warrock specific Mojo.
Two weeks ago i had a meeting with one of bigger german gamedevelopers and distributers called DTP to find a way and solution of developing branded Mojos.

AND the third and more important thing is the one you might also have heard in one or the other forums out there on the web as i started discussions and questions here and there. A new Mojocafe future vision.
The projectname for it is "WristWatch 1.0"
Last week i visite the german computer and internet fair called CeBit. My aim was to talk to producers of oLED and LED devices and displays and to see if they see a possibility in and realizing a wristwatch that can put the Mojocafe Mojos right on a wristwatch.
YES, you are reading it right: imagine a wristwatch offering the possibility to have a different look every day or even every moment whenever you would like to!

Unfortunately most of these companies that i contacted and met at the CeBit have one problem in common: they do not understand english :(
I explained and showed the Mojocafe to them and they were astonished but did not understood what the idea was good for :(
Nex time i'll come with a flipchart instead of a powerpoint document! *sigh*

So just to keep you informed: at the moment i am searching for a solution and seek companies with whom i could develop and produce the wristwatch. A good starting point was http://www.oled-info.com where i gatherd not only a huge pile but also the latest information about the oLed scene and development.

I will keep you updated about the whole thing and please do not go mad with me - from time to time i will start to develop new and nifty Mojos for your mobile devices!

Hugs and Greetings and have a good night or beautiful start into the day depending on where you live.

Carlos

p.s.: i have just been in Clint Eastwood's "Gran Torino". Beautiful movie with - in my opinion - not so well done finish. But Clint Eastwood's character is awesome!

Mojos on your netbooks... NOW!

08 Feb, 2009 | admin | Too many Comments - 11 -
Thanks to the help and beta testing of kronos_eee and Stefan91 from the netbooknews.de IRC chat channel, i managed to port the MOJOCAFE onto a windows executable file.
This means: If you own a netbook running Windows XP or Windows 7 (!) then you can use that file to show your Mojos right on your netbook as some kind of screensaver! As the whole thing is still on BETA i am not going to put it on the startpage directly. But here are the infos and the download link for you to test it out. It would be so awesome if you could drop me a line or two telling me if it works on your system and what kind of system you have:

MOJOCAFE Screensaver 1.01 works on:
ASUS 1000H with Win XP (see screenshot below)
ASUS 1000H with Win 7 beta 7000 (approved by kronos_eee)
HP nx6125 with 1400x1050 screen resolution (approved by Stefan91)

You can download the file by clicking this address:
http://www.mojocafe.net/screensaver/mojocafe_v1.01.zip

And here is a screenshot of my new ASUS eee right next to my NOKIA n800 in front of my dual monitor PC running the MOJOCAFE...

Mojocafe running on ASUS eee and NOKIA n800

Google widget - i hate and love it

05 Feb, 2009 | admin | Too many Comments - 8 -
Ok everyone, just to keep you updated about what is going on actually with the Mojocafe.
For the whole week i have been trying to develop several Mojos like
- a Mojo showing the next events from your Google Calendar User account
- a Mojo showing the To-Do List from your Google ToDo User account
and
- a Mojo showing the contacts from your Google contacts user account

This means for example that you could have in full screen the information about the next dates that you have to attend, the next next you want to do or people you would like to contact.

The problems that i have been cofrontated with are of a simple safety nature: you Google User login data.
Google offers three ways to login and gather the proper information from an user so that the data snatched can be used within other programming languages. This kind of communication is done by a so called API and most widgets that you know from Yahoo!, google itself, ebay etc. are done throu this process.

The conclusion for this to work in the most easiest way in combination with Adobe Flash (what the Mojocafe relies on), is by the user, meaning you, would have to offer your google mail and password login within the Mojocafe system. I would have to save this information in the Mojocafe database and encrypt it (MD5 encryption at least).

But lets be honest: do you give out your google login data to someone like..... ME ?

*grin* i know that it is nothing about me, but as i in my case WOULD NOT tell anyone else my login information, why should you do so? And i hope you would not do so.

So unfortunately at the moment there is no easy way to implement most of the google widgets inside the Mojocafe.
APART FROM THE CALENDAR!

Now that i stopped messing up with the above mentioned API, i am concentrating on the so called magic cookie authentification.
This means: i am going to develop a Google Calendar Mojo so that you can have your google calendar entries presented to you on your device. The way to get there will be a bit harsh as anyone who wants to use that Mojo will have to copy a 4 billion character (more or less) long website-address inside the Mojocafe profile, but fortunately it will only have to be done once :)

I will keep you updated abou this.

Oh and by the way: i am going the CeBit this year and will talk to some hard and software developers to join the Mojocafe!

New Category - Games removed!

13 Jan, 2009 | admin | Too many Comments - 9 -
Ok - before the good, first the bad news!
I just removed the "games/sparetime" category off the database for two reasons. First of all the only Mojo in there (HAL) is more like an sound-anoying Animation then a real game. But more important: i want to concentrate on offering non-to-less interactive Mojos as the first aim of the MOJOCAFE should be "to offer" then to "need to interact with".

The second reason, or better with what i have exchanged the removed genre is the good news now!

For the last two days i have been analyzing so called webservice APIs.
Just in short for those who do not know what an API is: webservices offer APIs to allow programmers to gather the information that a website offers so that you can use it the way YOU want it to.

Just a quick example: AMAZON.COM
The Amazon.com API allows you to get ANY information about a product so that you can design a website where people can see the books you read at the moment, but at the same time they see the actual price, votings for that title, a short summary and maybe some user comments like "what others say about this title" of the book.
These informations are snatched from the Amazon database.

What does that now mean for the MOJOCAFE !?
Well, i just finished to 99% the first webservice MOJO. It's from www.upcoming.org and it presents you what kind of events are going on in your area.

I will explain a tutorial on how to use the Mojo with the next entry.
For those who can not wait, simply log inside Mojocafe.net, go to your settings and scroll to to the most right.
The rest should be self explainatory :)

Yahoo! Weather Locations

11 Jan, 2009 | admin | Too many Comments - 3 -
I have just simplified the mode to add a location to your Profile for getting the actual weather information from the Yahoo! web service. For the US people it might have been easy enough as they only need to insert their ZIP code inside the input field.

But for any one else who is not into "how-do-i-find-my-zip-code" motivation procedure, i made a select list where the user can first select a country and then a city.

ADVISE: If your country or city is not in the list, use the contact form at www.mojocafe.net and inform us about the location we shall add to the drop down selector.

Frontpage update

10 Jan, 2009 | admin | Too many Comments - 4 -
I just changed the frontpage of the Mojocafe. As one image can say more then thousand words, i added a feature that shows the latest Mojo added to the database directly on the proper device. It's not realy the 1:1 size but i think it makes the whole thing much easier and interesting to new users.

So many thanks to the media!

07 Jan, 2009 | admin | Too many Comments - 7 -
Due to my last article i had been informed about that there have been yet much more Mojocafe reviews before. My fault that i did not checked that, sorry people! So what i did last night were two things: first to seek for any blog entries done due to Mojocafe.net and second be astonished.

It realy knocked me off my feet when i saw the entries. Specialy one from Japan where i do not know what they write about but they even did a video about the Mojocafe working on the PSP !!! Thanks so much Nihonjin!

The other awesome articles are these:
by Jenn from pocketables.net.
A review of the Mojocafe v2.0 in May 2008 on a polish site.
And another Japanese page reviewing it.

Thank a lot to all of your for supporting the Mojocafe!

First Media Support

05 Jan, 2009 | admin | Too many Comments - 8 -
Wow, i am very glad to inform you that the Mojocafe has its first public media reference. The project has been covered by Jon Jordan from www.pocketgamer.co.uk - and the review is awesome.

Jon tested the system out and even made some screenshots that you can see right next to the article. I love his introduction about the "where does SONY want to go with the PSP?" as i just had to realize that he is totally correct! The gaming consoles are more and more becoming multimedia devices - i even know people who own an iphone and though they never played computer games before they are now istore addicted :)

Thanks once again to Jon Jordan and pocketgamer.co.uk!

mojocafe.net - PSP ready

21 Dec, 2008 | admin | No Comments - 0 -
Within 5 days, counting from the first request posted inside the official SONY PSP forums, and by the support of 5 individual PSP owners, i managed to port the whole project onto the PSP.
Due to the big limitations that the built in PSP webbrowser contains, some mojos (at the moment) do not work like they should. Specialy these containing dynamic text, like calendars, do not implement the original font but instead of substituting they simply just do not show the text. This seems to be a limitation of the PSP system font, but strangly enough, the newsfeeds do work on the PSP (!).

Nevertheless, the main step has been done and worked out and from this point on, there can be over 40 million people out there presenting fullscreen Mojos on their PSP device.
Welcome to the project!

No PSP support? There is light at the end....

17 Dec, 2008 | admin | Too many Comments - 79 -
... of the tunnel!
I just registered for the official Playstation forums and opened there a thread about the Mojocafe, seeking for people who can test out if it works on their PSP consoles.
Within a hour the thread was blocked with this...

"Just to remind you it is against the House Rules to advertise for personal gain or personal websites within this forum. " - Alize -

Ok, in other words: please do not develop anything that could enrich the PSP if it could enrich yourself.
On the other side i found an other forum who are not only willing but interested in supporting the Mojocafe by testing it out on their PSP. I am so glad that they are there, otherwise i realy was close to stop the portation to the PSP. But now i am glad that i met them and we have come a few steps further within just two hours.

Situation Analysis:
Like on other devices, for the PSP there are several firmware upgrades. It seems that the last one comes with Flash 6, what would be awesome! Otherwise i would have to start to change the whole SWF files into flash mobile versions *sigh*

I have also been confrontated with someone who sees the whole Mojocafe website, what seems like that the PSP does not like javascript. I will try to find a PHP solution here.....

Thanks to the PSP community for their support! THANKS THANKS THANKS GUYS!

HTC Shift approved!

15 Dec, 2008 | admin | No Comments - 0 -
I am very glad about the support given by Jenn of pocketables.net who was so kind to try out Mojocafe on several devices. We are trying to find out why the Archos does not recognize Flash or better, why Flash does not recognizes the correct screen size of the Archos.

BUT the good news is: the Mojocafe works on the HTC shift!

So there is one more splendid UMPC where the Mojocafe works on. Great stuff and the Mojos are spreading quickly!
Once again, thanks a lot Jenn!

Mojocafe now supported by NOKIA app website

14 Dec, 2008 | admin | Too many Comments - 2 -
Wow, i am very proud to have that big amount of support since i came back from my job in Spain this summer. Right before i left, someone from NOKIA contacted me asking if it would be ok to get the MOJOCAFE on their website as promoted application/service. "For sure!" i answered and finally i made it (check the screenshot below).
The link to the software respository is www.nseries.com/products/n800 ... darn i am soooo proud! Thanks guys!

Update of Mojo #37

09 Dec, 2008 | admin | Too many Comments - 12 -
Due to some inspiration and wishes from a few chatters at the maemo IRC i changed the flickr mojo so that you enter a word at the beginning and just then the photos of the proper tag taken out of the flickr database will be shown.
happy slideshowing!

NEW MOJO NUMBERING

09 Dec, 2008 | admin | Too many Comments - 3 -
Due to the update and relaunch of the whole system, the Mojos have become new ID numbers. As i want to keep the old ones in here as reminisce but also inspiration for future Mojos, i let them in the database.
